Edward Petherbridge in Strange Interlude, 1


The first of three excerpts featuring Edward Petherbridge as Charlie Marsden in Eugene O'Neill's Strange Interlude. This 1988 television adaptation was directed by Herbert Wise for Bowden Productions Ltd. Also featured in these clips are Glenda Jackson as Nina, David Dukes as Darrell, Ken Howard as Sam, and Julie Eccles as Madeline. Edward Petherbridge appeared in the West End and Broadway stage productions of Strange Interlude in 1984/5, winning an Olivier Award and gaining a Tony Award nomination. The play was first produced on Broadway in 1928.

Am I right in suggesting Glenda Jackson also appeared in the west end performance in 1984 ? I believe I was amongst the audience.

Sooo jealous of dear Glenda... . Nothing dated about the performance, the me too movement and it’s excesses brings it all to the surface. You are wonderful !
