Björk - Hyperballad

From the album "Post". Lyrics: We live on a mountain Right at the top There's a beautiful view From the top of the mountain Every morning I walk towards the edge And throw little things off Like: Car parts, bottles and cutlery Or whatever I find lying around It's become a habit A way To start the day I go through all this Before you wake up So I can feel happier To be safe up here with you It's early morning No one is awake I'm back at my cliff Still throwing things off I listen to the sounds they make On their way down I follow with my eyes 'til they crash Imagine what my body would sound like Slamming against those rocks When it lands Will my eyes Be closed or open? I go through all this Before you wake up So I can feel happier To be safe up here with you

Björk once said that this song is about that stage in a relationship where the initial excitement is gone, and staying together becomes a conscious choice. Nobody else has dared to explore that theme much, let alone turn it into such a bombastic song.
Jenn Fur
Björk explains: "I guess that song is about when you're in a relationship and it's going really well and you're really happy and maybe you have given up parts of yourself. To fall in love and be in a relationship for a long time is like giving a lot of parts of you away because the relationship becomes more important than you as individuals. It's a bit of a tricky balance. I think everyone in a relationship needs to know not to forget themselves..." (from an interview by David Hemingway)

bjork has a pretty unusual morning routine

Is it just me or does this sound way ahead of its time?
OverTonesOfLevi
*"I imagine what my body would sound like slamming against those rocks"* *"And when it lands will my eyes be closed or open"* still gives me chills

I can't fathom that this song is 22 years old. Time flies.

I'm beginning to doubt if she's human...how could one pull off something like this in the 90's.

love that Icelandic accent.

It's a really emotional experience to come back to a song or artist after years of not hearing it. Listening to this now I can understand how influential this was for me in high school. The melody of the electric piano over the bass line in the beginning. Somehow that was ingrained in the way I would forever write melodies. It's a pretty intense feeling to realize this after all of these years.
AdventuresOfTheKanFam
True Gem. To bad she's too out there for most people, she's a true original and deserves to be in the pantheon of the great artists, Bowie, Byrne, Bjork.
Adultivity
Queen of Morning Rituals.

This song got me through 10 years of being with someone who was oil while I was water. Even though we are no longer together, I can still blast this without feeling any kind of way except grateful to Bjork.
Certinho
I'm telling you this is the shit!  This song is one of the greatest/most innovating compositions of all-time!  And that's because Bjork is an Elf!!

i was listening to radiohead and this came out of nowhere (not complaining)
Debtish isVodka
the strings part is very emotional
Rey Parker
When the pulsating synth comes in on the hook I just can't. This is one of the most unsettling, morbid, and tragically beautiful whirlwinds of eclectic sound I have ever heard. The disturbing imagery. The way the strings contrast the quantized drums and synthesizers. The way Bjork erupts on the chorus. The breakdown when she repeats "safe again" is so full of warmth and longing you can almost feel the desire emanating from the song. It's like as the anticipation for this reunion with her lover builds so does the music. Perfection

4:50 - The last 30 seconds of the song is pure heartbreak, pure genius. I cry every time.

There's a certain intensity to the song that I can't explain. The lyrics are subtle yet tell such a huge story. The production is very engrossing. It's almost as if listening to the song, you're experiencing yourself what she feels.

Lik if u cryed each time

Bjork is perfection.

The lyrics are poignant. Protagonist should quit the relationship. Great drum machine programming.

5:22 - 7:46 Enjoy the Silence - after the Orgasm that the ending of this Song was, and quite nice to be so, as to protect listeners from a random next song violation.

This song kills me and gives me life in an endless loop I can't even describe this. Bjork is some kind of genius mystic and I don't know what the world did to deserve her (but good job)

I love this song, but I'll never for the life of me understand why people insist on uploading songs with a full minute of silence or more at the end :/

The 90's and early 2000's were the best years for electronic music. The creativity of all artists at that time were simply incredible!
Shannmeister
Bjork completes my trio of favourite female artists the other two being Elizabeth Fraser and Danielle Dax. On a side note I always thought the last line was "sane again" but then again I do have dodgy hearing.

She's a lot of things.

Holy crap. It absolutely does. Although, I think "Where does this ocean go" might actually sound like "Hyperballad" as opposed to the other way around.
